White Chocolate Mocha – Starbucks Copycat
This is the time of year that many fans of Starbucks pumpkin spice latte eagerly anticipate. Luckily, if you’re a fan of their white chocolate mocha coffee, you don’t have to wait as it’s available all year long.
Starbucks’ white chocolate mocha has been a favorite of mine ever since I first tried it many years ago. Hot or cold, it always pleases my taste buds and makes me feel like I’m drinking dessert. And, like most desserts, it’s high in calories. Sigh… But I digress.
I was delighted to find this copycat recipe for my favorite Starbucks brew. I think you will be, too. As with the vast majority of homemade recipes, you get lots more and it costs way less.
Don’t skip the whipped cream!

White Chocolate Mocha – Starbucks Copycat
Makes 2 to 3 Servings
Ingredients
- 4 oz. white chocolate (I prefer Ghirardelli—be sure to use a premium quality chocolate. I am not a fan of Nestlé)
- 12 oz. milk (I used whole milk)
- 8 oz. brewed hot coffee or espresso
- Whipped cream for garnish
Directions
Chop the white chocolate roughly and place in a 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup. If you don’t have one, place it in a microwavable bowl large enough to hold 4 cups. It’s a lot easier if you have the large Pyrex as it has a pouring spout. I can’t live without mine as I use it frequently.
Pour the milk over the white chocolate and heat the mixture in the microwave at 50% power for 2 to 3 minutes (stopping after one minute to stir), or until hot and steamy. Do NOT microwave at full power as this may cause the chocolate to seize! It took slightly over 2 minutes for the chocolate to melt. Time will vary depending on the wattage of your microwave. You can also heat the mixture in a small pot on the stove, over low heat. Stir frequently or the chocolate could scorch!
Stir until the white chocolate has melted completely and is incorporated with the milk.
Stir in the hot coffee or espresso, pour into mugs, and garnish with whipped cream.
Fran’s Notes
The original recipe stated that it made two servings. Although I had two very large mugs, it was clear to me that they wouldn’t accommodate all of the liquid. So, I took the safe way out and used my 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup to make the mochas. Glad I did as the recipe actually made three servings for me.
