Diane, unless you can find an Italian deli store that sells Italian products, the quickest way to get your hands on some giardiniera is to order it from amazon.com.

I was raise in Chicago. We love Italian beef sandwiches.
My question is, do you know where I can buy Giardiniera in north Alabama or central Tennessee?
Thanks so much, looking forward to hearing back from you

In reply to <a href="https://www.fransfavs.com/2011/10/italian-beef/#comment-28368">Kathy</a>.

Kathy, this is truly a guesstimate, but I'd say a 2 1/2 lb roast would be fork tender in approx. 4 hours on high. If you cooked it on high for one hour, then turned it to low, it would probably take about 6 hours to become shreddable by fork. The great thing is that if it is cooked sooner than you expected, you can just turn it down to low and eat it when you're ready.

I've never made my own Italian beef sandwich, but now that I found this recipe, I absolutely will! I love how simple this is. And Thx for the tip about (not) cooking meat at low for the entire time in a crockpot, I had no idea. Do you know approximately how long I should cook a 2 1/2 - 3 lb beef roast for, high or low? Thank you!

Thanks for taking the leap of faith! Indeed, it is quite the tasty sandwich--so glad everyone liked it. Sorry about the lack of leftovers!

Sunday Funday is huge at our house. Normally, I have specially tried out recipes that I feed to the masses that I know will be a success. However, I saw this recipe and thought it would be the perfect accompaniment to a day of football. All of Fran's other recipes are always a crowd pleaser so I took the risk... Success! Only unsuccessful aspect of satisfying a group of hungry, football watching men: no leftovers.

Keep the deliciousness coming!
